Travel Ideas Post Pandemic

Ideas and tips for traveling in the months ahead

We can all agree that travel post coronavirus is going to look a little different. However, in life we are forced to pivot and adapt, and traveling post pandemic shouldn't be an exception. Even though you may have to put your dream vacation on hold, you can still enjoy the beauty of what your own country has to offer.

When I moved to Southern California I was amazed at how much there was to do here. I've got the beach, the desert, the mountains; I could literally surf and snowboard in the same day! Taking the time to explore and get to know the area made me love my new home that much more. I would go on hikes through Laguna that overlooked the ocean and hangout at Huntington Beach to dip my toes in the water. I love exploring and finding new places that I can take my friends and any visitors I have.

Time to fall in love with where you live. Here are ideas for travel that don't include a passport.

Local Trips & Staycations

Have you ever thought of being a tourist in your own town? To see your city through new refreshed eyes by learning the history of where you live? Local trips and staycations are a great way to do that, all while supporting small businesses.

  • Book a hotel for the weekend a few towns away.

This is the perfect little getaway! Whether it be a hotel or an Airbnb, booking something a few towns over can feel like a total vacation. Do whatever it takes to feel refreshed and relaxed.

  • Visit tourist attractions like museums or monuments.

Museums and popular monuments are a quick way to view your city through a tourist perspective. Lots of popular cities have free walking tours which is a great way to learn the history and also local tips. You can always learn something new.

  • Indulge in the touristy restaurants you might normally avoid as a local.

We all know there is that one restaurant we avoid because that is where the tourists go. During your staycation make a reservation and go check it out! Try their famous burger or their crowd favorites to see what all the hype is about.

Day to day sometimes it is easy to forget why we live where we do. A staycation is a great way to fall in love with your city all over again. Who knows, you might find your new favorite restaurant or coffee shop when you stop to look around.

Road Trips

There is just something about being the only car on the road watching the sunrise on the mountains and the sky burst into beautiful colors. Its almost like mother nature is showing off just for you. With our busy lives, we don't get to see this every day, however when you are on the road, these moments make the trip memorable. When I was recently driving through Colorado I was beyond amazed at all the trees changing colors (its been a long time since I've seen this), how everything works in harmony together and the feeling I got inside when looking at nature right in the eyes.

Its time to gas up and hit the open road! While traveling by plane might not be ideal to some, traveling in your personal vehicle or renting an RV is an amazing and safe alternative to visiting some super cool spots. Plan your route and go!

  • Always take the road less traveled, you'll see so much more.

Taking this path will always lead to a more meaningful experience.

  • Take your time and enjoy the ride.

Don't rush. Take it all in and enjoy the scenery. There is so much beauty in nature that goes under appreciated. Remember, the journey is just as important as the destination.

  • Plan your trip and stop at multiple destinations.

National parks are always a great stop along the way. Always be spontaneous! If you see something cool, pull off the road and go check it out!

  • Most importantly, don't forget the snacks and a killer road trip playlist!

Traveling across the country will give you a whole new appreciation for the beauty that you don't get to see everyday. Disconnecting from the digital world and just being with the people in the car is a great way to live in the moment.

Camping & Hiking Trips

There is nothing like the smell of fresh air as the sun rises when you are sipping on hot coffee on the top of a mountain. Hiking the great outdoors is the perfect way to get your daily does of vitamin D all while exploring new areas that many don't ever get to see in their life.

  • Check the weather ahead of time.

Nothing is worse than getting caught in the rain and not being prepared. No one likes wet socks.

  • Pack the right gear, but don't over pack.

This is especially important if you are going to backpack somewhere. Carry only the necessities. Packing both warm and cold gear is crucial when camping and hiking at multiple altitudes.

  • Do it right and bring the s'mores, sing camp fire songs & chop your own wood!

At night the campfire is the place to be. The stories that are told and the connections that are made around the fire at night are some of the best memories I have from camping with my friends.

  • Last but not least, watch out for bears.

Make sure to always properly store your food and scented items. The absolute last thing you want to come back to is a smashed window in your vehicle.

Leaving the hustle and bustle of the daily routine and emerging yourself into nature has so many benefits. You don't only get to reconnect with family and friends, you get to re connect with nature. The wildlife, the stars at night and the views from the top are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to camping and hiking.
