WHAT TO DO WHEN WORK THREATENS YOUR GOALS
Let's be real, how good is your work-life balance? We all like to pretend that we have everything under control, but the reality is that there is much out of our control, and once we become okay with that, we are better able to tackle the things that we do have influence over. Check out some quick tips on how not to let work derail your health and fitness goals!
Nutrition is something that I'm always talking about. 20% fitness, 80% nutrition, right? Well, sometimes work and school can threaten our healthy diet, so use these tips to be one step ahead. Always be prepared with a packed lunch and healthy snacks, and actually schedule time to eat them. My Nutrition Plan is actually great for snack and meal prep ideas, and my shakes are a go-to for many people on the Plan! Keep hummus and veggies, Greek yogurt and berries, or nuts on hand at work to satisfy the midday munchies. Drink lots of water and EAT BREAKFAST!
NUTRITION TIPS:
- EAT BREAKFAST
- STAY HYDRATED WITH WATER
- PACK LUNCH
- HAVE HEALTHY SNACKS HANDY
- SCHEDULE MEALS/SNACKS INTO YOUR DAY
How about the other 20%? My Fitness Calendar is a great resource that gives you a 30-minute workout Monday-Saturday. Even if you do only one 10-minute workout of mine before or after work, that's great! Physical activity is so important, especially when most of us have desk jobs. Get up every once in a while to stretch, and if you can, walk, take public transportation, or ride your bike to work. You can even exercise in the office! Keep a set of light weights nearby so you can do some bicep curls during a 5-minute break. Do calf raises while standing at the water cooler or printer, and do ab twists while sitting in your chair!
FITNESS TIPS:
- WALK, RIDE, OR BIKE TO WORK
- STRETCH REGULARLY
- TAKE THE STAIRS
- EXERCISE BEFORE/AFTER WORK
- SIMPLE WORKOUTS IN THE OFFICE
Just like we take care of our bodies, we need to take care of our minds. Stress is a huge culprit in sapping our energy and triggering us to make bad choices for our health. I say we're too blessed to be stressed! I practice saying positive affirmations first thing in the morning and expressing gratitude for a new day. It's amazing what a change in your perspective can do! Find what makes you feel alive and spend your free time doing that. Put on some music and spend time with your family. Don't be afraid to say "no" sometimes because if you don't build your dreams, someone will hire you to build theirs!
STRESS TIPS:
- DON'T OVERWORK YOURSELF
- POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS/GRATITUDE
- MUSIC
- FAMILY TIME
- FOLLOW YOUR PASSION
Finally, remember your WHY. What is your motivation for living a healthy life? To prevent illness? To improve your health? To have more confidence? Find your WHY and be gentle with yourself. It takes 21 days to make a habit, and just because these are simple switches, they're not always easy.`My Calendar and Nutrition Plan are always here for you, and I'm certainly not going to let you quit! Be sure to comment below and tell me your WHY.
