Now that restaurants are open, events are starting to take place & we are beginning to visit some of our favorite spots again, everyone is in GO mode to get their epic summer body!
After the last year and a half of craziness, that seems to be easier said than done right?! Now if you are thinking "OMG Rebecca, I haven't been sticking to my plan and now its shorts and bikini season, what am I doing to do?!" NOT TO WORRY! I have got you covered.
While a lot of you have used your down time this past year and a half to refocus on your fitness and nutrition goals, some of you may have fell off with your healthy habits and are now scrambling to get in shape. No matter which side of the line you fall on, I have come up with a list of 4 things you can do to get an epic summer body.
Whether you are starting on day 1 or are looking to create more healthy habits, these 4 things will help you reach you goals and achieve the epic summer body you've always wanted.
By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail! This is especially important when it comes to a busy summer schedule. With birthdays, weddings, soccer games, pool parties and impromptu beach days popping up all over your schedule, there are bound to be some split second decisions being made.
What happens when we have to make a quick decision when it comes to food? Typically we end up leaning towards the most convenient option; which 9/10 isn't the healthiest. So what can you do to make sure you are making healthy choices in the moment? STAY PREPARED!!
By preparing healthy snacks, drinks, etc. ahead of time, you are able to skip the stop at the gas station or through the drive thru. A little planning ahead goes a long way. Here are a few ways to make sure you have healthy options available for you when you are on the go!
- Pack a cooler in the car with water and other healthy beverages
- Pre plan your meals / meal prep for your busy days
- Keep it simple with snacks and keep snacks on hand
- Eat breakfast in the morning to start the day off strong
By planning ahead and staying prepared with your nutrition, you allow yourself to make smart decisions in the moment. Change It Up
Get creative and have fun with your workouts! Summer time opens up a lot of opportunity to get involved, go somewhere new and try to types of "workouts". Working out doesn't have to look like anything specific, there are so many options!! By staying consistent with your workouts and diversifying your activities, it is easier to stay engaged and focused on your goals because you are also enjoying the process. Getting your epic summer body starts with having fun with your fitness!
First thing I suggest is to try a new type of workout class. With things opening back up, studios have really good deals right now for drop in classes and also memberships. Taking a spin, barre or Pilates class, or something that you wouldn't normally do is a great way to challenge yourself while having fun at the same time. Who knows, you may find a new workout that you absolutely love!
Doing things that make us uncomfortable or that we wouldn't normally do, can be scary, but it really is so so good for us. Check out this podcast to learn about how great things come from leaving our comfort zones.
With the sun shining and temperatures rising, there some amazing places around that are starting to reveal themselves and all their beauty. Its time to get out in nature!! Planning a weekend hike with some friends or an overnight backpacking trip is prefect for not only resetting the soul in nature, but for raising your heart rate!
During the summer there are also lots of community leagues and clubs you can join. Running club, beach volleyball, flag football, sailing; you name it, its out there! Lots of these leagues have different levels, so they are perfect for someone who is just starting out or trying something for the first time.
All of these options are a great way to keep your fitness in check while still enjoying all that summer has to offer. Working out can be fun, and with endless summer activities, there is always time to feel the burn!
Staying motivated is key to getting an epic summer body. Whether it be physical results or working on your mindset, results are a marathon - not a sprint! You’ve got to remember what's at the end of the finish line! For me I stay motivated by reading books. Personal development reads are a great way to refresh your mindset.
If you can’t find the time to sit down and read a book, then a podcast is always an easy alternative! You can listen while you are on the way to work in the morning. Listening to somebody else’s advice is a great way to get out of your own headspace to reflect and apply their word. Another thing you can do is to use your next event or outing as a motivation. If you know in 2 months you have a wedding, set your eyes on that as your finish line. Having something to look forward to always helps me stay focused. When you cross that finish line, its time to set new goals and then go crush them!!
Be Confident & Own It
One of the most important things to getting an epic summer body, is having the confidence and knowing YOU ALREADY HAVE A SUMMER BODY! Every body is a summer body. Trust me, we are all so much harder on ourselves than we need to be. We must learn to always show love ourselves love and understanding to where we currently are in our journeys. You cannot compare your page one to someone else's chapter 10.
Being confident in your own skin is the most important thing. Showing yourself love and grace along the way is a great way to have a positive mindset and work on your confidence. Your thoughts matter and thinking positive thoughts about your body image will help you feel better about yourself and you will start to show up differently in life.
