Beginner’s Guide to Working Out

Beginner’s Guide to Working Out

Congratulations! You're reading this blog post, which means that you want to get yourself healthier, happier, and more fit! That's BRILLIANT! I'm all about motivating people to be their best version and live their healthiest life.

In order to truly flourish and be all you can, you need to ask yourself WHY. Why do you want to work out? For some it's to feel healthier, to fit more comfortably in clothes, or to improve quality of life. Maybe you want to combat an illness or prevent disease. Perhaps you're wanting to look your best for a wedding or special occasion. All great reasons WHY to start and continue to exercise!

If you're brand-new to exercise, start small and slow. I have beginners workouts on my YouTube channel that are 10 minutes long and start with modifications for each exercise. You can also access my First Steps series for detailed explanations on how to do many common exercises to get your form right before you try out a full workout.

My videos focus primarily on bodyweight exercises and cardio; some of the workouts have optional weights and everything has a modification so there won't be one workout you can't try out! You can use the workouts as your main form of exercise, or as a supplement to what you are already doing. The key is finding what you actually enjoy. If you hate running, don't run! You can take brisk walks, ride a bike, go to a spin class, do some power yoga, or even better, put on my workouts and feel the burn

You'll also need to hold yourself accountable. Make achievable goals, such as doing 50 continuous crunches, taking a 30-minute walk without stopping, or being able to do a full push-up. Find a friend who won't let you fail; an accountability partner can ask you regularly what your workout was, as well as how close you are to your goal.

The right clothing and equipment will also set yourself up for success. It's much more motivating to work out when you have some cute sports clothes or a pretty mat to sweat on!

If you need a schedule to follow to keep you on track and to know what to do, then you might want to check out my easy to follow fitness calendar.  It includes a 30-minute workout Monday through Saturday that is different every day of the week. We also work out different body parts and it's designed by me to give you the best results in the shortest amount of time by keeping you on your toes and motivated. Even if you can't commit to 30 minutes yet, start with 10 or 15 minutes and build your way up, we all have to start somewhere!

Finally, have a successful workout by staying hydrated, eating enough before and after a workout (my Nutrition Plan covers this!) and using weights that are challenging, but that you won't drop on your toes. You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great Maybe today you only manage to exercise for 10 minutes. Next time you'll go a minute or two longer, and before you know it you'll be powering through 30 minutes like it's nothing, and you'll be asking for a longer exercise video! Drop me a comment and let me know how you got started with fitness!
